Finding
a Good Deal
Everyone wants
to get the best possible deal when buying a new home - unfortunately, this is
easier said than done. Nevertheless, there are a few tactics that may help you
find a well-priced home.
- Make a low offer, but
propose a quick closing with few contingencies (ideal if you are prequalified
for a mortgage).
- Purchase a corporate-owned
house (many companies purchase homes from transferred employees).
- Consider homes that are
already vacant. The owners have already moved, and they may be negotiable.
- Check to see how long
a home has been on the market - if it's been available for an extended period,
you can try a low offer to see if the sellers are getting desperate.
- Consider a fixer-upper
- a home that needs some work. You can get the best deal on a home that shows
poorly but needs only cosmetic repairs. Always make sure you have a good idea
of what the renovations will cost before proceeding.
Patience is
probably the best weapon in your arsenal. Good deals do come along. So if you
are willing and able to wait - and keep looking hard - you may just find one.
